You don’t always have to do a complete overhaul on a deck to make it look brand new! This Newton home had an existing deck off of their kitchen and living room that was structurally sound, but needed a few visual enhancements. Structurally, we kept the existing decking boards, framing, support posts, and footings intact. We removed the existing pine trim around the deck, stairs, and lattice, and replaced it with new PVC trim. The existing railings were completely removed and replaced with new pressure-treated 2×4 railings, 4×4 wood posts, and pressure-treated 2×2 balusters, topped with composite rail caps. TimberTech Tropical Collection Marine Gray composite deck boards were used on top of the railings for long-lasting durability and a sleek finished look. The composite railing detail is a smart way to ensure the integrity of the railing stays intact long term.
Once the carpentry work was complete, our painters put the finishing touches on it, and pulled it all together. We sanded down the existing decking boards and prepped the wood to be repainted. Sherwin Williams SuperDeck Revive sealer remover was applied to the deck surfaces to remove the old paint. We then used Sherwin Williams SuperDeck Brightener to neutralize the sealer remover and prepare the surfaces for priming. Finally, we painted the deck using the Marine Gray color of the new TimberTech composite railing for a consistent look throughout the whole deck. Two coats of paint were applied to the new PVC trim and existing lattice work around the deck and stairs, to match.
With a fresh new look, this deck serves as the perfect place to entertain, and our clients can’t wait! The size of the deck allows for a group gathering on one side or a quiet cup of coffee on the other. We’re experts in transforming your existing deck into an outdoor living space that you’ll never want to leave! If your deck needs a little bit of work that will go a long way, give us a call – 617-969-4900.
