Before Tom Curren Arrived:
The owners of this home needed someone for painting and carpentry repairs to the interior and exterior of their home. No major construction needed to be done, but this home required a lot of attention to detail and time to properly restore it to its original condition.
Since we were going to be painting the exterior of this home, we began this job with a house wash. At Tom Curren Companies we take the time to not only make sure that your house is clean and ready for a new coat of paint, but we also take the time to hand wash your home. While most contractors would just power wash the grime away, we take the time to hand scrub your siding with Jomax to protect it from potential damage that can result from a pressure washer (on low pressure). It’s important to us that the job we perform on your house lasts for years! We don’t want to leave your house with more damage than we found it with. Hand washes ensure that we protect your siding, and it also allows us to inspect your house carefully for issues, like wood rot, that can go unnoticed. After the house dries, we prime and paint the exterior. Typically for exteriors, we’ll use three coats of paint to make sure that you have a strong and durable coating that will last.
At this home, we also did some carpentry repairs to their shed and the main house. For the shed, we replaced 4 window sills, the window casing boards–which are the decorative molding around a window, door kick– which is a sheet of material that attaches to the bottom of your door to protect it from damage, nine floorboards, and then we cut some of the sidings away from where the wall meets the floor to make space that could accommodate some Versatex PVC trim. For the main house, we removed and replaced 1 old section of Tongue and Groove siding from the gable. Tongue and Groove is a type of siding that resembles a puzzle piece– it has one side that sticks out, and the other side is grooved to fit the extended piece; it’s often used for siding because it can add stability, but it can also be used on ceilings and interior walls. We also worked on their back deck and a balcony– we started by washing these two areas. After the wash we allowed the spaces to dry for two days and then we lightly sanded the wood and applied a coat of Penofin, an oil finish that provides 99% UV protection. Penofin is a strong, flexible, and water-resistant oil that allows the wood of the deck and balcony to retain its flexibility by penetrating the wood to protect it from the inside out. Visibly, Penofin adds a rich, transparent color to enhance the beauty and grain in the natural wood. In addition to the deck and balcony, we also did a little work on their garage. Garage doors can easily get dingy over time, so we applied a brightener to the door, sanded it down a little, and then added a coat of Penofin to give it a shine.
After Tom Curren Left:
These clients were thrilled with the work that we finished for them! Their home was in desperate need of some upkeep and we were able to provide them with home improvements that increased their curb appeal. Exterior damage is unsightly and harmful to your home’s value if you’re trying to sell it. It’s important to maintain your home just like you maintain your car unless you want your home to depreciate in value like a car! Now, these homeowners can enjoy their beautifully finished deck and balcony, and no longer have to deal with any unsightly damage!
