Good water management. A well-designed, professionally installed gutter and downspout system provides protection against erosion, plant damage and basement flooding.
Well-maintained gutters help protect your home from water damage
Gutters and downspouts are important for the health and well-being of your house. By directing roof runoff away from your foundation walls, this drainage system is your first line of defense against basement or crawl space flooding.
A well-functioning gutter and downspout system preserves your topsoil and protects exterior siding and trim from backsplash water that can damage paint and cause wood rot.

Excellent service and quality of work. We needed to replace our wood gutters. They came when scheduled (or called ahead if anything changed), carefully evaluated our needs, discussed options (patch vs replace), provided estimates, recommended a best course of action, completed the work with the highest level of craftsmanship, and completed it on time and for the price agreed upon. I have used Curren for multiple painting and carpentry projects over many years and will continue to do so. Everyone we have worked with is courteous and great to have working in and around our home. They show pride in their work and a commitment to doing a good job. They are just what a home owner needs to address the variety of large and small projects that are beyond our tradition to "do it ourselves".

Work: 1. Clean existing gutters 2. Install gutters on extension with a flat roof which had been built without gutters (and run off was causing erosion and problems) 3. Add an extra down spout to a long section of roof needing an extra downspout. Comments: Tom Curren's gutter crew did a great job. For the gutter cleaning they identified loose fittings and tightened them without extra charge or any fuss. This is more than I expected. For the new section of gutter, they previewed the work the day before and the foreman made some suggestions I had not thought about. They told me what would be involved, when and where they needed access to the property and what time the job would start and should be completed. The job went exactly as planned without a hitch and they checked in with me at the end to make sure it was complete to my satisfaction. Of particular importance to me was the risk of damage to some new plants and shrubs around the area of the new gutter work. Even though the ladders had to be in amongst the new shrubs, there was no damage. They were extremely careful and professional.
How good are your gutters?
Most homes have gutters and downspouts but still sustain damage because of various problems. For example, gutters that frequently clog with leaves, twigs and other debris will overflow, spilling water everywhere. Gutters can be pitched improperly or be undersized for the roof areas they drain. In some situations, downspout extensions may be necessary to direct runoff farther away from the house. Aesthetic considerations are also important. Old gutters and downspouts that are dented or damaged detract from a home’s appearance.
Things to consider when choosing gutters & downspouts
What is best for you? A member of our team can help you determine the best gutter option for your home based on size, look, and functionality!
Because older gutters & downspouts can be difficult and costly to repair, many homeowners elect to replace old with new. Gutter and downspout choices are more varied today than ever before. The major decisions are explained below:
- Materials: Historically, gutters have been made from many different materials, including wood, steel, copper and seamless aluminum gutters. Aluminum gutters are most popular today because of their affordability, durability and color variety.
- Color: If you want gutters in a color that matches your house, aluminum is your best choice. Most gutter specialists have access to aluminum gutter stock that can be ordered with factory-applied finishes of different hues.
- Style: Different gutter “profiles” are available. Aluminum gutters are often formed in a “K” profile that includes a flat back section and a curved front. Half-round gutters can sometimes be found on older houses.
- Size: K-style gutters come in 5-in. and 6-in. sizes. The larger size is usually specified when the roof area being drained is especially large and/or steep. An experienced gutter installer will be able to determine which size is best for your house.
- Gutter Cap: This popular gutter add-on prevents gutters from clogging and overflowing – a smart addition to any gutter installation.
- Additional drainage options: Downspout extensions are sometimes necessary to carry roof runoff away from the house. Many of these simply extend out over the yard or garden, while others consist of buried pipe that drains to a dry well or daylight outlet.
